AK Steel Announces September Surcharges

Middletown, OH, August 26, 2004—AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) has advised its flat-rolled carbon steel customers that a $142 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for products shipped in September.   Also, AK Steel has advised its electrical steel customers that a $240 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in September.   September surcharges for the broad range of stainless steel products that AK Steel produces can be found on the company’s web site at www.aksteel.com.

Consistent with AK Steel’s previously announced practice, the surcharges are based on reported prices for raw materials and energy used to manufacture the products, with the July purchase cost used to determine the September surcharges.
