AK Steel Adds Energy Surcharge For Stainless Flat-Rolled Products

Middletown, OH, October 17, 2005—AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) said today that it is adding an energy component to its stainless steel surcharge because of the extraordinary increases in the cost of natural gas.  The energy surcharge, effective with shipments on and after November 1, 2005, will be applied to all grades of stainless steel sheet, strip and plate products.

AK Steel said its energy surcharge will be based on monthly reported prices for natural gas, with the September 2005 purchase cost used to calculate the surcharge for November shipments.

Headquartered in Middletown, Ohio, AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products, as well as carbon and stainless tubular steel products, for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets.
