AK Steel Announces Carbon Steel Price Increase and April Surcharges

 

Middletown, OH, March 16, 2006—AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) said today that it will increase spot market prices for its carbon steel products by $30 per ton for all new orders accepted for shipment May 1, 2006 and later.

AK Steel also has advised its flat-rolled carbon steel customers that a $189 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for products shipped in April 2006.   And, AK Steel has advised its electrical steel customers that a $200 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in April 2006.   April 2006 surcharges for the broad range of stainless steel products that AK Steel produces can be found on the company’s web site at www.aksteel.com.

AK Steel’s surcharges are based on reported prices for raw materials and energy used to manufacture the products, with the February 2006 purchase cost used to determine the April 2006 surcharges.
